It's cold outside. I don't mind walking the 300 meters or so to get to the community shower, but it's cold. My parents had agreed to give me a new tub for Christmas. I measured the tub. I measured the larger footprint and the drain placement and went to the nearest RV repair shop. Since they did not open for the next three hours I called a friend who used to do RV and Manufactured home repairs. Initially he told me to use JB Weld. Then I told him the floor was soft and he suggested the floor under the tub may have rotted. His suggestion was replacing the spot under the floor with a marine plywood (good for places where there is moisture like an RV bathroom) and retrofit a bathtub using tile. While he is waiting for the glues to dry he can pack the bearings since it has been sitting for the past four years.
When he shows up and inspects the tub situation he comes up with a variety of scenarios. One option means taking out the bath tub. In order to get the bath tub out it means taking out the entire bathroom counter (including the sink) and bath tub. I am so grateful we did not have to do this option! We would still be working on it. Instead, he built a support system that went under the bathtub. The one that was there had rotted and did not originally go the distance of the tub. He then used a bead of Gorilla Glue in the cracks. This created a bead to hold the tub to the support system underneath and helped glue the crack together. After the glue dried he put on two layers of a fiberglass repair kit.
I had a door under the refrigerator that was not closing because the hinges had rusted. Rust seems to be a big issue for me, as so many screws and nails are rusting. I seem to have a good bit of moisture in the RV that I need to find a better way to get rid of. We replaced the hinges and it works like a charm!
Over a year ago there was a piece of rubber that fell off one of my bigger windows. He was able to put the rubber piece back by taking out some debris that had collected in the track.
My friend looked at one of the bearings and it had plenty of grease, so they did not need to be packed.
He kept asking if there was anything else that needed to be taken care of and I kept coming up with things. My RV needed a good deal of TLC.
