Spring seems to be a time for transition, maybe it's just the transition from Winter to Spring. At this time the semester is quickly coming to a close. Projects are coming due, sometimes all at the same time. With the recent shooting at Virgina Tech my peers and I have been informed our school has an emergency plan. After this tragic event school administrators are looking at whether or not changes need to be made to this plan. This school and several others have planned memorial services. I am unable to attend any. Otherwise there does not seem to be any major impact. When I was working on my undergrad not every student had a computer and I don't recall anyone having a laptop. Email was something new and IM was still to come. It sounds as though this is the form of communication so many used and had access to communicate with friends and family. It also sounds as though this is how the school kept everyone informed of the situation. Does it ever boggle your mind how quickly technology is advancing and the implications it has on our relationships? The school shooting has had an affect on my work. School staff seem to be more sensitive or attuned to their students who show signs of depression and/or demonstrate any tendency for homicidal or suicidal thoughts. It is something we all need to be aware of.
With that note, it's time I go to class. How have you been affected/impacted by the shootings at Virginia Tech?
