(This post is not for those with a weak stomach or who are easily grossed out)
A little over a week ago we had some nice weather. I had been needing to clean the RV but either the weather would not cooperate or we were under watering restrictions that would not permit it. I started by changing the black water sewage hose. It's something I do about once a year when the old hose gets brittle because of the weather and/or sun. It's not a fun chore. It's not really an easy chore and it's really dirty, you're dealing with sewage after all. I was struggling with putting the hose on an adaptor and was using a screwdriver to make it happen. The result was scratching myself a few times. Not one of the better opportunities to be getting scratched up. When I was finished I cleaned it up and poured peroxide on it then bandaged it up. I continued cleaning that day by cleaning the exterior RV and then my car. Both of which involved having my hands in water for long periods of time and band aids won't stay on in those conditions.
Before traveling for the holidays I began to get concerned it was infected. The cuts were swollen a bit and there was faint redness around the sores. I tried to keep it covered while playing with my 2 year old nephew and 2 month old niece.
A week and half later the swelling and redness persist. I was a bit worried about an infection and developing staph infection, worst case scenerio. My doctor's office is closed for the holiday until next week so I called a nurse and saved a co-pay!!! If the redness gets worse, there's pain or I can't move my fingers then is the time to seek medical treatment. Who knew!! Last tetanis shot was this spring after a fall from the notorious bicycle.
Several weeks later and the swelling and redness went away.
(My brother says everyone has a black sewage story, for now, this is mine.)
