Fire in the House!!!

Last week the electricity went off in the park where I live.  I slept through it, but others didn't.  David, a neighbor, woke up and thought he personally was having electrical problems again.  Tom, another neighbor, woke up also for an unknown reason.  Tom tried to go back to sleep, but by the time he did the smoke alarm went off.  He got up to see what the fuss was all about.  Tom had a coffee pot installed under the cabinets in the kitchen and it had caught fire.  Tom pulled it out and took it to the front door where he threw it on the ground.  The plastic became like hot water and was dripping everywhere.  He has a burned hole in the cabinet, linoleum, carpet and his foot.  Tom tells the story like it's something that happens every day.  He didn't have a lot of emotion when he retells the events of that morning.

I kept this in mind when closing up the RV to travel for the holidays.  All the user manuals for just about every electrical appliance says something along the lines of "Unplug when not in use".  I guess this may explain why.  So when I left for the holidays I unplugged every electrical appliance I could think of.  In the event of a power surge I really didn't want my trailer to go up in smoke, regardless of whether or not I was there.
